
Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee has tragically passed away from cardiac arrest at the age of 63, according to a Bloomberg report.

Han Jong-Hee reportedly suffered cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at a hospital. A company spokesperson confirmed his death and stated that no decision has been made regarding his successor.
Han Jong-Hee’s Legacy at Samsung
Han was appointed Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics in 2022 and also serves as a board member. Born in 1962, Han joined Samsung Electronics in 1988, starting his career in the Visual Display division. He played a pivotal role in growing Samsung’s TV business and earned recognition for his contributions.
The funeral service will take place at Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul, with a procession scheduled for Thursday.
Han’s Vision for Samsung’s Future
On March 19, Han shared that Samsung was exploring significant deals to drive growth amid investor criticism over the company’s performance in the AI market. Samsung has been under pressure for lagging behind during the artificial intelligence boom, contributing to its status as one of the worst-performing tech stocks in 2024.
Han acknowledged the challenges ahead, stating that 2025 would be a tough year due to economic uncertainties in major markets. He emphasized Samsung’s commitment to pursuing “meaningful” mergers and acquisitions to propel growth.

“First and foremost, I sincerely apologise for the recent stock performance not meeting your expectations. Over the past year, our company failed to adequately respond to the rapidly evolving AI semiconductor market,” Han Jong-Hee stated.
