These innovations demonstrate Apple’s dedication to creating a seamless and intelligent user experience by combining hardware and software. Here are biggest features coming to Apple ecosystem.

iOS 18

Apple has unveiled iOS 18 at WWDC, showcasing a transformative update with enhancements for customization, privacy, and integration. The homescreen now offers flexible icon placement, a new dark mode that dims app icons for a visual and eye-friendly experience. A robust theme engine lets users personalize their app grid with universal colour schemes. Control Center is more versatile, supporting multiple pages of controls and toggles, with smart home and media controls featured. For the first time, third-party apps can integrate into the Control Center, and users can swap the default camera and flashlight icons on the lock screen with preferred toggles. Privacy enhancements include optional app authentication and selective contact access for third-party apps. The Messages app introduces more expressive communication with any emoji usable in Tapback responses. It also includes new formatting options such as bold, underline, strikethrough, and italic.

Additionally, satellite messaging and message scheduling have been integrated(not available in India), and Apple is embracing RCS for higher-quality multimedia sharing with Android devices. The built-in Mail app receives improved sorting similar to Gmail’s, automatically categorizing transactions, updates, and promotions. For gamers, a new Game Mode minimizes background activity to boost performance and reduce latency. The Photos app undergoes its most significant overhaul yet, optimized for large libraries with enhanced face sorting and a new carousel view for easier navigation. It now features improved auto-grouping for people and pets and lets users pin collections for quick access. These updates collectively represent Apple’s effort to rival Android’s flexibility while enhancing the user experience across various functionalities. The keynote hinted at upcoming AI-powered features that will further leverage Apple’s ecosystem.

visionOS

Apple’s visionOS 2, the latest update for the Vision Pro, introduces several user-requested features to enhance functionality and user experience. One notable addition is the ability to convert any image in the Photos app into a 3D spatial image using advanced machine learning, adding a new dimension to visual content. The update also expands the travel mode to include train journeys, not just airplane travel. Additionally, the Mac virtual display now supports a virtual ultrawide option, simulating the effect of dual 4K displays to enhance the workspace.

To further enhance the Vision Pro experience, Apple introduces SharePlay to the Photos app, allowing users to share the app with others via Spatial Personas. This feature creates a 3D representation of friends, enabling shared experiences such as watching media or editing documents in a virtual space. On the content creation front, Red Bull is developing an immersive sports series, and Apple is venturing into scripted immersive storytelling. BlackMagic Design is integrating its DaVinci Resolve and Apple Compressor workflows, and Canon is launching a spatial lens for the EOS R7 tailored for Vision Pro content creation.

Apple began preorders for Vision Pro in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore on June 13th, expanding its market. Its availability is set for June 28th. Preorders for Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK will start on June 28th, with official availability on July 12th. Despite being a first-generation product, these updates demonstrate Apple’s commitment to evolving the Vision Pro into a versatile tool for productivity and enterprise use, edging closer to its goal as a groundbreaking device.

macOS Sequoia

Apple has just announced macOS 15 Sequoia, which has exciting new features. One of the key additions is iPhone mirroring, allowing users to control their iPhone from their Mac. This means you can receive phone notifications on your Mac and even play iPhone audio through your Mac, providing a way to interact with your iPhone without touching the screen.

Safari has also been updated with some noteworthy changes. A new Highlights feature uses machine learning to identify exciting content on a webpage. Reader mode has been improved with machine learning-generated summaries and tables of contents. A Viewer mode has been introduced to allow users to watch videos directly on the webpage.

tvOS

Apple’s tvOS, the software powering Apple TV streaming devices, is set to receive several notable enhancements this fall. One essential upgrade is the Enhance Dialogue feature, introduced with iOS 17, which will now use machine learning to improve vocal clarity. This feature isolates Dialogue from background noise, making it easier to hear over sound effects and music. Initially limited to the Apple TV 4K paired with a second-gen HomePod, Enhance Dialogue will now extend to more TV speakers, receivers, AirPods, and other Bluetooth devices. Additionally, a new InSight feature on Apple TV Plus will provide details about actors and the show’s soundtrack, allowing users to add tracks to Apple Music directly from the remote or via an iPhone used as a TV remote. This feature, however, is exclusive to Apple TV Plus original content. Subtitles can now be set to automatically appear when the TV is muted or when users skip back, enhancing accessibility. Apple is also introducing support for 21:9 projectors, allowing widescreen films to be viewed as intended by their directors. Furthermore, a charming new Snoopy screensaver will animate the beloved character during idle moments.

iPadOS

At WWDC 2024, Apple gave a sneak peek of iPadOS 18, revealing upcoming tablet features. The update will launch in the fall, with a developer beta already available and a public beta coming next month. One of the major highlights is the new built-in calculator, eliminating the need for third-party apps for basic math operations. This native calculator is also compatible with Apple Pencil, allowing users to write and solve math problems directly on the screen. Additionally, Apple is introducing Smart Script, a machine-learning tool that refines handwritten text, replicates the user’s handwriting style, checks spelling, and converts typed text to match handwritten notes. These improvements aim to personalize and streamline the writing experience on the iPad.

The update also includes features from iOS 18, such as expanded homescreen personalization and a redesigned Control Center. This makes app navigation more intuitive with a new floating tab for improved multitasking. This announcement follows recent updates to Apple’s iPad lineup, including introducing an M4-powered iPad Pro and an M2-powered iPad Air. With iPadOS 18, Apple is enhancing the iPad’s functionality by integrating highly requested features and improving the overall user experience, bringing it in line with the latest iOS developments.

Apple Intelligence

Apple smartly announced at WWDC 2024 that it is introducing “Apple Intelligence,” a new suite of AI features for the iPhone, Mac, and iPad.

The company, which previously avoided using the term “artificial intelligence” while discussing its machine learning features, has now incorporated AI enhancements across its platforms. Apple needs to catch up to Google and Microsoft, who swiftly developed their generative AI features following OpenAI’s breakthrough in 2022. Apple is now striving to catch up.

According to Apple, its AI features will perform functions within apps, such as managing notifications, generating text automatically, and summarizing content in emails and other apps. The company also claims that it can link one app to execute an action in another, for example, playing a podcast sent to you by a partner.

Given Apple’s focus on privacy, the company states that its AI features will be processed on-device to safeguard user information. However, users will require an A17 Pro or M-series chip to access these features. Additionally, Apple will introduce a “semantic index” to retrieve personal details and display them across apps when needed.

When AI features require cloud processing, Apple assures users that it will utilize a “Private Cloud,” where data will not be stored on the servers and inaccessible to Apple. The company also claims that independent experts will verify the validity of these measures.

5 Things to Expect from Apple’s WWDC 2024

Another year, another WWDC event, but what’s special about WWDC 2024? At WWDC 2024, the Cupertino-based tech giant is about to reveal its big AI plans for iPhone, Mac and other Apple devices. While all the competitors (not actually) or rather Android smartphone manufacturers started offering AI features into their devices, Apple was busy working on it, only to come up with a perfect solution, like always.

Apple is the kind of company that digests new features before it allows its users to use them, be it offering a 120 Hz refresh rate, face unlock, or the most awaited feature: AI. They are late for the party, but still, the world is waiting for them like Pushpa fans waiting for the release of Pushpa 2. That’s the reputation they’ve earned over the years. WWDC 2024 would also bring the biggest updates for Apple’s in-house voice assistant Siri, since 2011.

5 Things to Expect from WWDC 2024

  1. At WWDC 2024, Apple is about to announce its partnership with OpenAI and is expected to integrate ChatGPT into Apple’s ecosystem. The collaboration between these two giants will bring the best of the world in Apple devices and a revenue stream from OpenAI.
  2. Apple is not expected to arrive with out-of-this-world AI solutions like some of the major brands. Instead, the company will focus more on basic things that can be solved with AI and could save users time.
  3. According to trusted sources, for the time being, Apple will introduce the new AI features only to limited devices, such as the ones with an M1 chip or later for iPad and Mac users. In the case of iPhones, it would be limited to iPhone 15 Pro devices and the upcoming iPhone 16 series.
  4. Apple is also set to change the setting functionality of both iOS and macOS. The new design will make the Settings app have a cleaner user interface with enhanced search capabilities.
  5. At WWDC 2024, Apple is also expected to launch a new “passwords” app to keep user passwords safer than ever. The new app will support autofill, store passwords, and create authentication codes like Google Authenticator.

Apple’s WWDC 2024 will commence on June 10th at 10:30 PM in India and it can be streamed live on Apple’s official website, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and Apple’s YouTube channel.

vivo X Fold3 Pro Review : Thinnest & Lightest Foldable Phone

Vivo X Fold3 Pro Review

Foldable phones are becoming more common, making it challenging for brands to differentiate themselves. While there’s still room for improvement, many features, particularly those related to the foldable screen, are becoming standard. We recently received the vivo X Fold3 Pro to test out. Upon initial use, it’s clear that this device has the potential to significantly impact the foldable industry and present intense competition for established tech companies. The question is, is the vivo X Fold3 Pro the best foldable phone to purchase in 2024? I tested the device to determine if it outperforms all previous foldable phones.

Features of Vivo X Fold3 Pro

vivo X Fold 3 Pro is the first Foldable smartphone from vivo for Indian customers priced at ₹1,59,999/-. It brings stylish design and India’s thinnest and lightest foldable smartphone. Checkout more about vivo X Fold3 Pro on Exhibit Magazine Instagram page.

Design & Build

The vivo X Fold3 Pro stands out immediately with its elegant and distinctive looks. It features circular camera bumps, similar to those found on other vivo smartphones like the vivo X100 Pro and vivo V30e. Despite the off-center placement, vivo manages to make the camera bump look balanced and stylish thanks to a clever visual trick. The camera bump houses three cameras, two tiny LED flashes, and the ZEISS branding near the empty space of the bump.

The vivo X Fold3 Pro is a stunning device, especially because of its slim profile when folded. The phone measures just 11.2mm when folded, making it the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market. Despite its size, the device is incredibly light, defying the stereotypes of foldable smartphones. It stands out as one of the largest devices in the foldable market, offering an impressive screen size. To maintain its lightness, vivo utilized a Carbon Fiber Ultra-Durable Lightweight Hinge to minimize the visibility of the crease and enable the phone to fold shut seamlessly.

The vivo X Fold3 Pro is a foldable phone that turns into a small tablet, requiring both hands when unfolding. While it’s comfortable to use with one hand when closed, it’s necessary to use the other hand to interact with the top part of the display for tasks like opening the notification drawer. This is particularly true for the vivo X Fold3 Pro, which is larger than other foldable phones. The 6.53-inch external display, when folded, makes the phone easier to handle. The textured back of the phone provides a better grip, though it’s unfortunate that no protective back case is included in the box.

The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the screen makes unlocking the phone with one hand relatively easy. You don’t have to struggle with the power buttons located on just one side of the phone. This feature is rare on foldable phones, and even more impressive is the fact that the vivo X Fold3 Pro also has a similar in-display sensor on the inner display.

Performance

The vivo X Fold3 Pro is packed with high-end hardware you’d expect from a premium flagship at this time of the year. It features a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. This means it can handle anything you throw at it without lacking in power. However, playing graphics-intensive games can cause the phone to get quite warm. While it’s not hot enough to burn your skin, it might affect frame rates and make you want to take a break from gaming.

The phone has a dual battery with a total capacity of 5,700mAh, which is impressive for a foldable device. Due to the power and two displays, the battery life might be shorter than that of regular smartphones with the same battery size. vivo compensates for this with 100W fast charging, one of the fastest in the foldable category. Additionally, it supports 50W wireless charging with a compatible charger.

The most notable feature of the vivo X Fold3 Pro is its foldable screen, which is currently the largest in its category. It delivers impressive performance, particularly in terms of brightness. However, watching movies on this phone has its disadvantages. Because of the smartphone’s square shape, there are large black stripes on both sides, making it difficult to fully enjoy the movie. Watching a 2-hour movie at maximum brightness consumed approximately 42% of the battery. The main advantage of using a foldable phone is multitasking, as you can watch a video while chatting or browsing the web simultaneously.

As for software, the vivo X Fold3 Pro is equipped with Funtouch OS, based on Android 14. The phone includes its own set of apps, such as the “v-store” for downloading apps and games. One of the best features of the V-Store app is that it allows users to download apps without requiring a Google account sign-in. Thankfully, the vivo X Fold3 Pro doesn’t come with any unwanted pre-installed apps, which is something I would expect from a premium phone. The transition from viewing content on a smaller screen to a larger one is seamless and offers a great user experience. Furthermore, all the applications are optimized to support both screen sizes, ensuring that popular apps like Instagram and other previously non-compatible apps work flawlessly on different screen sizes.

Camera

The performance of foldable phones in terms of mobile photography hasn’t been impressive due to design and space sacrifices. We observed the same with the vivo X Fold3 Pro, as it presents a mixed experience.

The vivo X Fold3 Pro features triple rear-facing cameras, including a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a 64-megapixel f/2.6 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and another 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. The phone also has a 32-megapixel camera for selfies on both the front and inside foldable display.

The 50-megapixel primary camera takes decent-quality photos in daylight with a nice dynamic range. The images are not too saturated or over-processed. However, I noticed the images are unattractive, especially when taking HDR images. Despite this, photos taken in bright daylight using the primary camera have a lot of detail.

The 64-megapixel telephoto camera performs well in daylight, capturing images with consistent colour tones and detailed highlights and shadows similar to the primary camera. However, the images it produces tend to be slightly softer compared to the primary camera, despite having higher resolution, maybe due to additional processing. While it offers the option for up to 100x zoom, the images at this zoom level are very soft and of low quality, making them hardly usable.

The ultrawide camera utilizes the same 50-megapixel resolution, resulting in softer images that require ample light for good-quality shots.

The 32-megapixel front-facing camera on the front and foldable display handles harsh lighting situations well. Still, there will be some instances where the images tend to have ramped-up shadows, especially with the backlit shots.

The vivo X Fold3 Pro can shoot videos up to 8K at 30fps. Using the primary camera, I recorded several videos at 4K, and the results were good. The camera performs well in bright sunlight and captures a good range of colours. It’s also helpful in capturing moving shots, and the stabilization is quite impressive. The telephoto and ultrawide cameras also produce good results. Surprisingly, all three rear cameras maintain a consistent colour tone for videos. In low-light conditions, the cameras struggle and produce a noticeable amount of noise, especially the telephoto and ultrawide cameras.

Verdict

The vivo X Fold3 Pro clearly aims to set a new standard. Its sleek design and slim form factor make it a perfect foldable phone. In addition to its powerful hardware, the foldable phone offers unique features such as larger screens and in-display fingerprint sensors on both screens, features that even industry leaders still need to offer. Unfortunately, vivo’s camera has slightly underperformed. While this is not a deal-breaker on its own, it does make the overall experience less than ideal.

ASUS launched ROG Ally X – The Next-Gen Handheld Gaming with Superior Features

ASUS has officially unveiled the ROG Ally X, a refined and more powerful iteration of their handheld gaming PC. While not a direct successor to last year’s ROG Ally, the Ally X addresses many of its predecessor’s shortcomings, offering a more premium option for gaming enthusiasts. One of the most significant upgrades in the ROG Ally X is its battery capacity, which has doubled from 40Wh to 80Wh. Although ASUS hasn’t provided specific battery life estimates, users can anticipate considerably longer gaming sessions compared to the original model.

Storage and memory enhancements are also noteworthy. The ROG Ally X now boasts 1TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage, up from 512GB. It uses standard M.2 2280 size drives, simplifying future upgrades and reducing costs. Memory has been increased to 24GB of 7500MHz LPDDR5 from 16GB 6400MHz LPDDR5, ensuring better performance with more resources allocated to the GPU without compromising system operations.

ASUS has re-engineered the internal cooling system, incorporating new, slimmer fans that deliver a 10% increase in airflow. This design effectively directs air toward the display, keeping it cool during intense gaming sessions. Additionally, the microSD card slot has been repositioned to avoid overheating issues caused by its proximity to the exhaust vent in the previous model.

The exterior design of the ROG Ally X features subtle yet significant changes. The body now showcases smoother curves, deeper handgrips for improved ergonomics, and repositioned controls for a more intuitive feel. The joysticks have been enhanced for better feedback and durability, while the redesigned D-pad offers smoother circular movements. The fingerprint sensor is now recessed for easier access, and the back buttons have been minimised to prevent accidental presses.

In terms of connectivity, the ROG Ally X replaces the previous combination of USB-C and ROG XG Mobile Interface with dual USB-C ports—one supporting Thunderbolt 4 and the other USB 3.2 Gen 2. These changes do add some weight, with the ROG Ally X weighing in at 678g, 68g heavier than its predecessor.

Some elements remain unchanged from the original ROG Ally. The ROG Ally X continues to run on the Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, paired with a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz IPS LCD featuring AMD FreeSync Premium and is powered by a 4nm AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, featuring a Zen 4 architecture with 8 cores. The speakers and wireless connectivity options are also the same, and it includes a 65W charger. The software has been updated to the latest version of ASUS Armoury Crate SE, which will also be available for the original model, all running on Windows 11 Home.

The ROG Ally X represents a significant leap forward, addressing many issues highlighted in reviews of the original model. From enhanced battery life and an improved cooling system to a refined design and upgraded storage, ASUS has clearly listened to user feedback. Priced at $799 and available exclusively in black, the ROG Ally X is now open for pre-orders and includes a 3-month Game Pass subscription.
