Google has officially rolled out its first Pixel Feature Drop of the year, packed with AI-driven enhancements and expanded functionality across its Pixel lineup. The March update introduces a slew of new features, including improved Gemini Live capabilities, a smarter Pixel Screenshots app, and advanced connectivity options like the new Connected Cameras feature.
What’s New in the March Pixel Drop?
Google detailed the latest upgrades coming exclusively to Pixel devices, in a blog post. Among the standout additions is Gemini Live, now supporting conversations in over 45 languages without requiring users to adjust their settings manually. Originally launched with the Pixel 9 series, Gemini Live’s multimodal AI is now expanding to Pixel 6 and newer devices, as well as Pixel Fold, allowing users to integrate images, files, and YouTube videos into their interactions for a richer search experience.
Looking ahead, Google is set to introduce live video and screen-sharing capabilities to Gemini Live, enabling users to have real-time, face-to-face AI-powered interactions via Gemini Advanced. Meanwhile, the Pixel Screenshots app gains a new Suggestions feature, offering smart recommendations based on captured screenshots. It also now supports work profiles, making it easier for users to manage work and personal content separately.

Google is also enhancing Pixel Studio, where users can generate unique AI-powered images of people based on simple text descriptions, ideal for sharing with friends and family. A particularly intriguing addition is Connected Cameras, which allows Pixel users to link their phones with other cameras, including a GoPro or another Pixel device, to stream from multiple angles on social media platforms.
Enhanced Global Access and Security Upgrades
Google is expanding the reach of some of its most popular Pixel-exclusive features. Pixel Screenshots, Pixel Studio, Pixel AI weather reports, and the Pollen Tracker in the Weather app are now available in Japan and Germany, while Japanese speakers can now access AI-powered summaries in the Recorder app.
Security and safety also take center stage in this update. Scam Detection in Messages uses on-device AI to analyze text patterns, flag potential scams, and provide real-time warnings before users fall victim to fraudulent conversations.
Additionally, Satellite SOS, a lifesaving emergency feature—has been extended to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Canada, ensuring Pixel users can reach emergency services even in areas with no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Pixel users can also now share their live location via the Find My Device network, allowing friends and family to track them while on the move.

Pixel Fold and Pixel Watch Upgrades
For Pixel Fold users, the Dual Screen Preview feature now supports video recording, making it even more versatile for content creators. Pixel 9 Pro Fold users also gain access to Add Me with Dual Screen Preview, enhancing collaborative photography and videography. The Pixel Watch lineup also receives notable upgrades. Google’s Loss of Pulse Detection, introduced with the Pixel Watch 3, has received FDA clearance in the U.S. and will begin rolling out later this month. This feature can detect signs of potential cardiac or respiratory failure, overdose, or poisoning and automatically contact emergency services.
Additionally, on-device menstrual tracking is now available on the Pixel Watch 3, while the device’s step-tracking algorithms have been fine-tuned to recognise deviations from a user’s normal walking pattern. The Auto-Bedtime Mode, initially launched with the Pixel Watch 3, is also being extended to the Pixel Watch 2. The March Pixel Drop reinforces Google’s commitment to AI-powered innovation, security, and seamless connectivity. With smarter tools, expanded global availability, and life-saving safety features, Pixel devices continue to set the bar for what’s possible in a smartphone ecosystem.
