In a significant move for the Indian telecommunications landscape, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has joined a strategic partnership with Skypro, a pioneering IPTV service provider. This alliance is set to enhance the television and internet experience for BSNL customers nationwide.
The collaboration marks a turning point for Skypro as it helps BSNL evolve from a standard internet service provider to a digital services company. Together, they aim to deliver cutting-edge entertainment solutions to millions of households throughout India. BSNL users will soon have access to Skypro’s advanced IPTV services via the Skypro TV app, which is available on smart TVs. This service will boast over 500 HD/SD/Live Channels, over 20 OTT platforms, and various value-added services without needing a traditional set-top box powered by BSNL’s robust broadband network.
Sh Ajay Kumar Karaha, BSNL’s Chief General Manager for the Punjab Circle, announced the launch of the Internet TV (IFTV) service, which features popular channels including Colors, Star, and Zee and sports channels like Star Sports. Customers will not need to utilize separate bandwidth or install a set-top box. The service is being rolled out in Chandigarh, starting with 8,000 customers, with plans for international expansion in the pipeline.
Skypro, established in 2019, is redefining the home entertainment experience by integrating advanced internet-based television services with a vast and diverse content library. Their platform ensures uninterrupted viewing without the complexities associated with traditional cable services. Skypro’s CTO, Dr. Pawanpreet Dhaliwal, emphasized the company’s commitment to transforming how content is consumed in India, stating that this partnership combines reliable connectivity with innovative entertainment solutions.
Notably, BSNL boasts the highest rural broadband penetration in India, and Skypro’s offering of over 500 Live TV Channels and 20+ OTT applications will be entirely free for BSNL’s FTTH subscribers. The service can be accessed directly on smart TVs without the need for additional hardware.
Nitin Sood, Skypro’s Business Head, expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting its potential to deliver a modern entertainment experience akin to a cinema in the comfort of people’s homes. The collaboration sets a new standard for home entertainment in India by merging Skypro’s innovative solutions with BSNL’s extensive network.
Moreover, Skypro’s state-of-the-art technology promises low latency, multi-CDN support, reduced channel zapping time, and a crystal-clear viewing experience. Ranjit Singh Sandhu, President Emeritus of Skypro, believes this partnership will make premium content more accessible, providing audiences across India with unparalleled viewing experiences.
In addition to this partnership, Skypro has collaborated with over 100 ISPs nationwide and is preparing to launch Oneplay, an online cloud gaming platform. This service will allow users to stream their favourite games on any device, particularly on TVs, without the need for high-end gaming consoles while securely saving their gaming progress in the cloud.
