Air India has joined forces with tech giant Apple to integrate AirTag-based luggage tracking into its baggage location services. This innovative collaboration merges Apple’s Find My network with Air India’s baggage tracking service, accessible through both the airline’s mobile app and official website.
AirTag Integration in Air India’s Baggage Tracking System
Through this partnership, Apple device users can now track their luggage using AirTags and share the real-time location with Air India. This feature streamlines the recovery process for lost suitcases, significantly enhancing customer convenience.
Apple’s ‘Share Item Location’ function, introduced last year, enables travelers to share AirTag or compatible Find My accessory locations with others, including select airlines. Air India becomes the first Indian airline to adopt this feature, joining international carriers like British Airways, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Air Canada, and Virgin Atlantic.
The new feature allows the Find My network to work seamlessly with Air India’s baggage tracking system. If a bag tagged with an AirTag is misplaced, users can generate a Share Item Location link via the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, or Mac and send it to Air India.
Once shared, Air India gains access to an interactive map displaying the bag’s location with automatic updates and timestamps, helping track the luggage’s movement in real-time.

How to Use AirTag Integration to Find Lost Luggage
If a piece of luggage with an AirTag fails to arrive at its destination, customers should report it at the Air India Baggage Counter at the airport. Airline staff will create a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
To proceed, users must:
- Generate the ‘Share Item Location’ link using the Find My app.
- Submit the link through the Air India website or mobile app, linking it to the PIR.
Via Website:
- Go to the ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ section in the Customer Support Portal.
- Enter the AirTag location link along with the PIR number.
Via Mobile App:
- Open the Customer Support Portal.
- Click on ‘Baggage’, then ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’.
- Input the AirTag location link.
Once submitted, users will receive a receipt confirmation email containing a link to track their baggage status.
Air India clarified that the AirTag link is accessible only to authorized airport teams, and is used solely to trace luggage within airport premises. The location-sharing link expires after seven days, or sooner if the passenger retrieves the bag or manually stops sharing.
