Glance TV Turns idle TV screens into AI-powered smart surfaces

Glance has launched Glance TV – a revolutionary feature that turns idle TV screens into engaging, AI-powered smart surfaces. With Airtel as its inaugural partner, this groundbreaking platform debuted in India, enabling users to experience Glance TV on Airtel Xstream devices powered by Android TV OS.

Glance TV reimagines the role of connected TVs, shifting from passive screens to interactive platforms that deliver live, personalized, and real-time content, even when the TV is not actively used. This innovative approach offers users an always-on, immersive experience that provides entertainment and updates tailored to individual preferences.

During its initial rollout, Glance TV has been made available on over one million Airtel Xstream devices, with users averaging 200 minutes of engagement across three sessions daily. Ambitiously, the platform aims to reach four million devices in India by June 2025, with plans to expand into various global markets shortly after that.

The diverse content offerings on Glance TV are sourced from a vast network of prominent publishers, featuring live and trending material across multiple categories, including breaking news, sports, entertainment, business, finance, automobiles, and technology, all currently available in English.

A standout feature of Glance TV includes live updates that keep sports fans informed with real-time scores, detailed statistics, and comprehensive scorecards. Additionally, an integrated weather widget provides essential information to help users plan their day effectively. These functionalities position Glance TV as a complete, real-time, relevant information source.

Siddharth Sharma, CEO of Airtel Digital TV, Bharti Airtel, emphasized the shift away from traditional entertainment, stating, “Customers are increasingly moving away from traditional entertainment, seeking platforms that offer more value. Our strategic partnership with Glance will elevate customer experience by delivering interactive features that enable access to advanced AI technology directly through their TVs.”

Piyush Shah, Co-founder of InMobi and President & COO at Glance, remarked, “Glance TV marks a groundbreaking step in redefining televisions as intelligent, AI-powered platforms that go beyond traditional media consumption. It elevates TVs from mere entertainment devices to dynamic surfaces that engage, connect, and inspire users.”

The rise of connected TVs is transforming the entertainment landscape worldwide. In India alone, the market is projected to exceed 40 million devices by 2024, driven by the affordability of smart TVs and enhanced internet connectivity. These innovations are redefining content consumption and fortifying the role of connected TVs at the center of the future digital ecosystem.
