Canon has announced EOS R50 V, a video-centric interchangeable lens camera, along with the RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens. This new product lineup aims to meet the needs of modern content creators.
Streamlined Design for Video Production
The EOS R50 V is designed to boost video production by allowing easier transitions between various shooting styles. With a compact and lightweight design, the camera does not feature a traditional viewfinder, making it suitable for long shooting sessions. Its vertical shooting tripod socket, auto-rotating display, and optimized grip enhance usability, particularly for vertical content.
Utilizing Canon’s RF mount, the EOS R50 V supports over 45 lenses and features a 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, similar to the Super 35mm sensor found in cinema cameras like the EOS C70.
Advanced Creative Features
The camera offers a variety of recording modes, including Canon Log 3, which captures a wider dynamic range for colour grading. Users can produce uncropped, oversampled 4K 30p and cropped 4K 60p videos and Full HD 100p/120p recordings with audio.
In-camera options include 14 colour filters, a Slow & Fast Motion movie mode, and a new Cinema View feature, establishing cinematic angles and frame rates. Tools like false colours and zebras enhance filming capabilities, while the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system provides accurate autofocus.
Professional Workflow Capabilities
The EOS R50 V is designed to support a professional post-production workflow, featuring capabilities similar to higher-end EOS R series cameras. Recording formats such as XF-HEVC S and XF-AVC S and Custom Pictures imaging and LUT support aim to simplify the editing process.
The camera also features 3-mic noise reduction technology to minimize unwanted audio disturbances and supports LPCM 24-bit 4-channel audio input, accommodating a range of audio recording scenarios.
Live streaming and Stills Functionality
Additionally, Canon has integrated a dedicated live streaming button into the EOS R50 V, enabling users to stream via multiple methods, including wireless connections, HDMI via a switcher, or USB-C. The Live Switcher Mobile Multi-Camera app allows video integration from multiple devices for more dynamic live streaming options.
For users live streaming through a USB-C connection, cropped 4K 60p footage is supported, enhancing the viewing experience on larger screens. Features such as Smooth Skin Movie mode improve the presentation of subjects. At the same time, the camera also excels in still photography, boasting improved autofocus and subject detection capabilities compared to its predecessor.
