On 1st October 2022, India witnessed the launch of 5G network services at the 6th India Mobile Congress, where our Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, said that this is “a knock on the doors of a new era” and the “beginning of an infinite sky of opportunities”, but what does it mean for India as a nation?
Among the top three major telecom companies, Airtel immediately cruised its 5G services in eight cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Bangalore, while Reliance Jio commenced its 5G journey on 5th October on the venue of Dusshera, where they launched the service in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi.
Vodafone Idea (Vi) hasn’t announced the launch date yet but will launch the 5G services in the country soon. Airtel is expected to launch 5G services for the rest of the country by March 2024, while Reliance Jio will do the same by 2023-end. The 5G services by Jio will be available for eligible users for free until the company announces the 5G plans.
