The Dell Inspiron has come a long way from being a bulky laptop to being a compact laptop. The Dell Inspiron 14 Plus is a compact laptop that weighs just 1.6kg, making it suitable for both professional and casual environments. The aluminium chassis makes it sturdy and adds a premium touch. The Dell Inspiron 14 Plus hinges are incredibly sturdy, providing a firm yet smooth opening and closing action. Despite its compact size, the laptop may be slightly heavier than other models in its category. This extra weight could be noticeable, especially for users who frequently carry their laptops with them.

The laptop’s 14-inch display has a 2240 x 1400 pixels resolution, resulting in sharp visuals. Whether working on content or watching videos, the display provides a pleasant viewing experience. It offers good visibility from multiple angles without distortion. Additionally, the thin bezels contribute to the laptop’s more compact look.

The camera has a slider that lets you manually turn it off if you’re worried about privacy. Dell has included all the ports you need for everyday use, such as 2 USB-A slots, a 3.5mm audio jack, a microSD card reader, an HDMI port, a Type-C port that can be used to charge the laptop, and a proprietary Dell charging port.

You have a couple of convenient options when unlocking the Dell Inspiron 14 laptop. Firstly, the laptop features a dedicated fingerprint reader that doubles as a power button. Setting up the fingerprint is a breeze, and the recognition accuracy is impressive. I found that it effortlessly detected my fingerprint. The laptop swiftly unlocks Windows with a quick tap, providing a seamless and secure login experience. Additionally, the laptop also offers the option of unlocking via facial recognition, adding an alternative way to unlock the device for convenience.

 

The laptop’s design allows for effective thermal management of its components. The air intake is strategically positioned at the back, while hot air is efficiently expelled from the right side. This setup ensures optimal cooling for the powerful Intel Core Ultra 7 processor and other internal hardware, maintaining performance and reliability even during demanding tasks.

PERFORMANCE

The latest Intel Core 7-155H laptop processor powers the Dell Inspiron 14 7440. This powerful chip has 16 cores and 22 logical processors, making it capable of handling any task. Additionally, the laptop is equipped with 16GB of soldered LPDDR5X RAM running at 6400MT/s and a 1TB WD NVMe storage drive, providing high-speed storage. The laptop’s powerful processor allows Windows 11 to run smoothly, enabling me to watch 4K movies and browse over 20 tabs on Chrome without lag. It can also handle demanding applications such as Photoshop and video editing software. However, during prolonged periods of heavy use of battery power, there was thermal throttling, which slightly impacted the performance.

This laptop is not equipped with a separate dedicated gaming graphics processing unit (GPU); instead, it utilizes Intel Arc Graphics to manage animations and tasks that require heavy graphics processing. While it can run less graphically demanding games at lower settings, it is not suitable for running highly graphic-intensive games.

While running on battery power, the Inspiron 14 Plus 7440 provides approximately 6-8 hours of battery life under moderate usage conditions, which makes it well-suited for a full day of work or study. However, engaging in more resource-intensive tasks such as gaming or video editing can significantly reduce battery life, sometimes dropping to 3-4 hours or even less. It’s important to note that due to its slim design, the battery in this laptop is not removable. The Dell Inspiron 14 Plus also comes with a 100W USB-C charger for fast charging capabilities, which allows the battery to be quickly charged within an hour. It is handy for those people who are constantly on the move.

Raj Kumar Rishi: Our mission at Dell Technologies is to use technology to drive human progress, and my primary responsibility is to ensure that we consistently deliver on this mission by keeping customers at the centre of every product decision we make. Furthermore, as the VP and MD for the Consumer and Small Business segment, my job is to drive growth in India, which remains a top priority market for the company. Ex: Dell Technologies is a global technology leader. What specific strategies have you implemented to drive growth and innovation in the Indian market? Can you share some examples of how Dell Technologies India has successfully delivered value to its customers?

Raj: At Dell Technologies, we are relentless in our pursuit of providing the best-in-class customer experience. We truly believe that customers are the ones who drive us to bring innovations to our product lines every year. Raj: The Indian gaming market constantly evolves through innovation, investment, and overall efforts. The industry is thriving, with an expanding pool of gamers who want to consider gaming as a serious career option rather than just for leisure or entertainment. What we’re also seeing is that the industry is growing holistically. Thousands of software engineers, content creators, data analysts, game designers, social media specialists, venue operators, accountants, lawyers, and others are needed to make gaming more fun and realistic. This has increased the role of technology in gaming devices, and as a result, there is an influx of devices in the market every year that offers incredible power and performance. Given these shifting dynamics, we are dedicated to meeting the needs of all types of gamers. As per our 2030 ESG goal of advancing sustainability, for every product sold, we will reuse or recycle an equivalent product, 100% of our packaging and over 50% of our product portfolio will be made from recycled or renewable materials. In fact, our new Inspiron laptops are shipped in packaging that is made from 100% recycled and renewable materials and is 100% recyclable. Tech layoffs hit Dell as it plans to slash 5% of its workforce

It was back in 2022 when the significant headlines coming from the tech industry revolved around layoffs. Major tech players like Google, Twitter, Microsoft, and more decided to let go of a big chunk of their employee force due to plummeting stocks and economic slowdown. It was expected that the tech industry would make a considerable recovery in 2023 but the first quarter of 2023 paints a different picture. Now, joining other tech players is the PC giant Dell, which is gearing up to lay off 6,650 or roughly 5% of its employees.

Dell layoffs

Dell Technologies is going through massive changes as the PC and infrastructure giant has laid off 6,650 of its employees. This amounts to roughly 5% of its global workforce of 133,000. Jeff Clarke, vice chairman and co-COO of Dell Technologies wrote a letter to employees announcing layoffs stating that the steps taken to stay ahead of the downturn impacts that enabled strong quarters in a row are now no longer enough. The message was titled ‘Preparing for the road ahead’ where Clarke revealed that growth has been declining in Dell’s primary PC business. Dell reported PC sales plummeted by nearly 30 per cent in the third fiscal quarter.

While it is confirmed that Dell will layoff a big chunk of its employee force, it is still unknown where they will occur inside the company. The structural changes being implemented are still unknown and the founder, Chariman, and CEO Michael Dell not making the layoffs announcement has raised eyebrows too.

It was previously reported that Dell was implementing several cost-cutting measures like pause on hiring and limits on travel. However, the recent letter by Dell’s COO states that the measures are no longer enough. The letter viewed by Bloomberg also states that the company views department reorganization and job reductions as an opportunity to drive efficiency. After the reduction of employees, Dell will reach its lowest employee force in about six years. According to a March 2022, only one-third of the company’s employees are US-based. The company is expected to provide further information on the financial impact of the job cuts during the fiscal fourth-quarter results on March 2.

The very first product HP developed was an audio oscillator (HP200A), and one of their first clients was Bud Hawkins, Chief Sound Engineer for Walt Disney Studios, who bought eight audio oscillators for testifying the surround sound systems installed in theatres for their motion picture Fantasia. Today, Microsoft is worth $1 trillion, and its co-founder Bill Gates is the 2nd richest person in the world.

Founder: Michael Dell

Dell is one of the largest technology corporations in the world that develops, sells, repairs, and supports computers and related products. Still, its founder Michael Dell is not a familiar name for us like we know Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, though he’s also a college dropout like them who made a name in the computer world by designing customized computers for people. Michael Dell dropped out of school to focus full-time on his business and founded Dell Computer Corporation in 1984, headquartered in his dorm room.

The company designed the first computer of its design in 1985, the Turbo PC, and sold it for $795. Later on, Michael moved to North Austin to expand the company from his own office, which he acquired through the early profits. Over the years, Dell grew up as one of the trustworthy brands in the computer world. Currently, Dell is worth $78.05 billion and competing fairly with several computer manufacturing opponents like HP, Lenovo and Acer.

Lotus encountered financial troubles after the death of Colin Chapman, and later on, it was bought by General Motors. Currently, Lotus is owned by Chinese multinational group Geely which holds a 51% controlling stake in Lotus and the remaining 49% were acquired by Etika Automotive.
