OnePlus Pad 2: Design and Display

The Oneplus Pad 2 boasts sturdy construction and features an aluminium frame on the sides and back, ensuring solid build quality. The front of the device showcases a 12.1-inch IPS LCD panel, which is slightly larger than its predecessor. This large screen is perfect for watching videos and can even be used as a makeshift laptop(paired with a smart keyboard), providing a versatile user experience. Additionally, the Oneplus Pad 2 now weighs 584 grams, a 32-gram increase from its previous model OnePlus Pad.

Watching a video on the large 12.1-inch (2120 x 3000 pixels) IPS LCD panel was mind-blowing. It is made for watching content, thanks to Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and with 1 billion colours, it is immersive. This time, the OnePlus Pad 2 has six speakers, making it loud enough to watch content without missing any dialogue.

OnePlus Pad 2: Performance

The Oneplus Pad 2 has a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. This is the same processor that powers all the flagship smartphones, such as the recently reviewed Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. The same level of flagship processing can be seen on OnePlus Pad 2.

I have been using Pad 2 for the past week, and it is incredibly smooth, even with OxygenOS running on it. I was impressed by how effortlessly it handled multiple tabs on Chrome, and multitasking was a breeze with split-screen.

Thanks to its larger display, gaming on this tablet is a whole new experience. I played multiple games, including Call of Duty and Genshin Impact. The quality of the display really boosts the gaming experience to another level. I found myself completely absorbed in the games, losing track of time for several hours.

OnePlus Pad 2: Keyboard & Stylus

The OnePlus Pad 2 features a well-designed keyboard with a trackpad layout resembling a traditional laptop. In this iteration, the keyboard has been enhanced with a built-in battery and Bluetooth connectivity. This means that once you connect it to the OnePlus Pad 2, you no longer need to keep the smart keyboard physically attached to the tablet.

The keyboard’s layout is ergonomically comfortable for typing, and the trackpad has improved from the previous generation. There’s ample space for effortless swiping, and the trackpad provides a good touch response and satisfying click feedback.

OnePlus has named its stylus the Stylo 2. This smart stylus is what you’d expect. It is battery-powered, connects via Bluetooth, and magnetically attaches to the top of the tablet when it’s in landscape orientation. It works well, with virtually no input lag and a comfortable grip. When using it, it definitely gives a pen-and-paper style writing experience. It offers impressive pressure level sensitivity, so when pressure is applied, the lines get thicker, mimicking the experience of using a traditional pen or pencil. Additionally, it comes with an extra tip in case the first one gets worn out or lost.

OnePlus Pad 2: Camera

The OnePlus Pad 2 has a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. After testing both camera sensors, I found that while they may not be designed for professional photography, they are still quite functional. The front camera is suitable for video calling and capturing casual pictures, while the rear camera is handy for taking pictures of documents or for quick snapshots when you don’t have your smartphone with you.

OnePlus Pad 2: Battery

The OnePlus Pad 2 features a familiar 9510mAh battery capacity, similar to its predecessor, the previous-gen OnePlus Pad. However, the OnePlus Pad 2 delivers even more impressive battery life thanks to optimised hardware. Moreover, if you ever need to recharge, the device supports fast charging, allowing you to fully charge the battery in just 90 minutes when using the included 67-watt SuperVOOC charger.

I watched House of Dragon Season 2 Episode 6 in QHD, with the brightness set to 86% and using the built-in speaker. While watching, I noticed that the battery on my OnePlus 2 only dropped by 18%, which was impressive, considering I can watch a whole series on a single charge.

OnePlus Pad 2: AI

The OnePlus Pad 2 comes with various AI-powered features that greatly enhance the user experience. These features include the AI eraser, which intelligently removes unwanted elements from photos; the recording summary function, which automatically generates concise summaries of recorded content; and the smart cutout feature, which accurately isolates objects in images and videos. These AI capabilities add significant value to the device and streamline various tasks for the user.

Verdict

After using this tablet for nearly a week, I can confidently say that it’s a great device for both work and entertainment. It’s powerful enough to replace my laptop and durable enough to withstand the rigours of travel. Despite being heavier than other tablets, it’s become my go-to gadget for on-the-go productivity and leisure. While it’s one of the best tablets in its price range, alternative options are worth considering, such as the iPad 10th generation for those within the Apple ecosystem or the Samsung Tab S8 and Tab S9 FE for those who prefer Android tablets.
