Having a Netflix and knowing a Netflix are two opposite things. Almost every third person has a Netflix subscription, but not everyone is trying to know the depths of the OTT giant. And that’s why we’ve come up with 7 tips and tricks that can help you have a better Netflix experience.
Individual Netflix Profiles
Netflix allows you to have up to five profiles, as everyone has a different taste when it comes to watching content. Having a single profile might suggest shows/movies/documentaries that you are not into and confuse the recommendation algorithm. So, create a separate profile for each individual to enjoy a personalised experience. With that, your teenager won’t get a “Jamtara” in their recommendation, and you don’t have to watch “Stranger Things.”
The Set-up Process:
- Go to the Manage Profiles > Add Profile
If you’re creating a profile for your child, check on the option child, and they will only see shows, movies and documentaries rated for ages 12 and under. You can also set a PIN for your profile, update the display picture and more.
Turn Off Autoplay Previews
Netflix has this feature to play trailers of the shows/movies/documentaries that you hover your cursor on, which sounds great on the list of features, but in reality, it’s irritating, especially when you’re browsing for something, and the trailer plays. To turn off the autoplay feature, follow the below steps:
- Open Netflix
- Go to My Netflix
- Click on the account name
- Go to Manage Profiles
- Scroll down to Autoplay Previews and turn it off
Get Exactly What You Want to Watch
Don’t waste your time hate-watching. It does you no favours, especially when Netflix thinks you’re enjoying it! If you don’t rate a show or movie, Netflix assumes you’re a fan and will suggest more of the same. Love a title? Show your affection with two thumbs up. If it’s just okay, one thumb will suffice. Not your cup of tea? Hit that thumbs down, and you’ll see fewer similar recommendations.
Enhance Your Experience with Audio Descriptions
Watching without watching? You’re only getting half the story. For visually impaired viewers, missing the on-screen action is common, but Netflix is bridging that gap. With over 2500+ titles featuring audio descriptions, these voiceovers narrate exactly what’s happening on screen. To find them, head to the categories menu and choose English – Audio Description. If you’re on a browser, you can view all available options at Netflix.com/browse/audio-description.
Personalise Your Subtitles
Subtitles are a lifesaver, but not everyone loves Netflix’s default settings. Luckily, you’ve got options! If that yellow text or funky font isn’t doing it for you, head over to Netflix.com or the Android app (for iOS users, it’s off to the web for you). Go to Account > Profile & Parental Controls > Subtitle Appearance. You’ll be able to tweak everything from font style to text size, colour, and background. Once you’re satisfied, don’t forget to hit Save.
Wipe Away Your Netflix Viewing History
We all have guilty pleasures, but some things are better left unseen by others. If you’ve binged something you’d rather keep private – say, an all-night marathon of YOU – Netflix lets you cover your tracks. Here’s how:
- Visit Netflix.com and log in.
- Head to Account > Profile & Parental Controls > Viewing Activity.
- Click the circle icon next to any show or movie you’d prefer to hide.
- Want to start fresh? Scroll down and hit Hide All. While you’re at it, you can download your entire viewing history and maybe reassess those questionable choices.
What’s New on Netflix?
Netflix keeps things fresh by adding new shows and movies every month (while quietly retiring others). Keep tabs on what’s coming and going by checking the New & Popular section on desktop or New & Hot on mobile. Want to be the first to know when something drops? Click the bell icon to set a reminder, and Netflix will give you a heads-up when it’s available.
My fascination with your creations is on par with your own. The sketch you’ve presented is tasteful, and the content you’ve authored is of a high caliber. Nevertheless, you seem uneasy about the prospect of embarking on something that could be perceived as dubious. I believe you’ll be able to resolve this concern in a timely manner.
