Five years after its debut on PS4, Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic epic, Death Stranding, has finally journeyed to Xbox. On Thursday, Death Stranding Director’s Cut quietly launched on Xbox Series S and X, bringing the acclaimed title to a new community of gamers. Originally released as an enhanced version on PS5 in 2021, the Director’s Cut added fresh gameplay elements, new missions, and refined visuals, later expanding to PC and Apple platforms.
Kojima Productions officially confirmed the Xbox launch with a message to fans on X, saying, “Xbox community members, please enjoy.” The timing of this release hints at the end of the game’s likely five-year exclusivity with PlayStation, which officially concluded on November 7.
Celebrating the original Death Stranding‘s fifth anniversary, Kojima Productions shared, “Since its debut on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, DEATH STRANDING has connected with over 19 million players globally. Now, with DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT arriving on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Amazon Luna, we aim to broaden the reach of the Death Stranding IP and engage even more players around the world.”
To mark this milestone, the Director’s Cut version is currently available on Xbox and PC at a 50% discount for a limited time. Xbox players can look forward to exclusive features like cloud saves, Xbox Achievements, and Xbox Play Anywhere functionality, alongside high framerate options, photo mode, and ultra-wide monitor support.
In addition, Kojima Productions rolled out Death Stranding Director’s Cut on Amazon’s Luna cloud platform, accessible to those with a Luna+ subscription. Published by 505 Games, the Director’s Cut initially launched on PS5, later expanding to PC and even select Apple devices like the iPhone 15 Pro, iPad, and MacBook models with Apple silicon.
Looking ahead, Kojima Productions is hard at work on Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, set for a 2025 release. Announced at The Game Awards 2022, the highly anticipated sequel will once again feature Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker, reprising their roles from the original. While Death Stranding 2 is confirmed for the PS5, there’s no official word yet on a PC or Xbox version, leaving fans eagerly awaiting more details.
