Vivo’s X series has always been synonymous with exceptional photography capabilities, and the brand has consistently pushed the envelope in crafting the perfect camera smartphone. With the Vivo X200 Pro, Vivo has attempted to upgrade its flagship experience further. The predecessor, Vivo X100 Pro, impressed us with its advanced camera technology and won our Exhibit Tech Award’s Camera Smartphone of the Year. But does theVivo X200 Pro build on that legacy and raise the bar even higher? Let’s find out.

Vivo X200 Pro: Design

The Vivo X200 Pro introduces a revamped design that feels premium and durable in hand. Unlike its predecessor, the X200 Pro features a flat steel frame that adds structural integrity and offers better protection against accidental drops. During our testing, the phone survived a fall onto a hard surface with only a minor dent on the frame, while the display remained intact, showcasing its durable build quality.

The front of the device has a stunning 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 1260×2800 pixels and a buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The new quad-curved display design adds a unique flair to the phone, although it appears flatter than traditional curved screens due to the subtle curvature on all four edges. Watching content and scrolling on this display is a treat, thanks to the sharp, vibrant colours and fluid transitions.

The rear of the phone features frosted glass that feels soft to the touch and resists fingerprints effectively. A large, thick camera module houses the impressive triple-camera system, signalling the phone’s photography skill. While the design of the camera module may be subjective, it undeniably adds character to the device.

Vivo X200 Pro: Performance

Under the hood, the Vivo X200 Pro is powered by the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This combination ensures a seamless user experience, even for demanding tasks.

Over three weeks of usage, the phone consistently delivered snappy performance without any noticeable lag, even with multiple apps and games running in the background. Benchmark results back up this real-world performance: the X200 Pro scored 2484 in Geekbench’s single-core test and 7375 in the multi-core test, outperforming many flagship competitors, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Playing games on the X200 Pro is an enjoyable and seamless experience. Popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Genshin Impact perform exceptionally well, maintaining smooth frame rates even when pushed to the maximum graphics settings. I noticed no frame drops during intense gaming sessions, and the device remained cool, avoiding any overheating problems.

Additionally, the phone is equipped with impressive stereo speakers that deliver rich, immersive sound, allowing for a more engaging gameplay experience. The responsive haptic feedback adds another layer of immersion, making every action in the game feel more tactile and real.

Vivo X200 Pro: Camera

Photography has always been the crown jewel of Vivo’s X series, and the latest X200 Pro continues this tradition with an upgraded triple-camera setup. It features a remarkable 50-megapixel main sensor that captures detailed and vibrant photos with exceptional clarity, alongside a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor that boasts a 160-degree field of view, perfect for vast landscapes without any distortion. Additionally, the standout 200-megapixel periscope telephoto sensor allows up to 3.7x optical and 100x digital zoom, making it ideal for capturing distant subjects with impressive detail. This combination of advanced sensors truly boosts the photography experience for users.

The 50-megapixel main sensor shines in daylight photography, producing images with remarkable detail and natural colors. Vivo’s software optimization enhances these photos, ensuring they look sharp and vivid. Portrait mode is another highlight, delivering DSLR-like bokeh effects with precise edge detection and customizable depth.

The ultra-wide sensor captures stunningly clear and wide shots, setting a new standard for wide-angle photography. Whether it’s a scenic landscape or a group photo, this sensor doesn’t compromise on quality.

The 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens is a game-changer for zoom enthusiasts. While the 3.7x optical zoom produces crisp and detailed images, the 100x digital zoom can be hit or miss. In well-lit conditions, it manages to capture usable images, but in low light, the results are less impressive. That said, it’s an excellent tool for travellers looking to capture distant landmarks with compromsing on quality.

During a visit to the ITC Grand Bharat in Gurugram, the X200 Pro impressed with its ability to capture complex architectural details. Similarly, on a trip to Jaipur, the phone excelled at photographing the vibrant colours and intricate designs of Rajasthan’s forts and palaces.

In video recording, the X200 Pro supports up to 8K resolution at 30fps. While 8K is a nice-to-have feature, most users will likely stick to 4K at 60fps for its balance of quality and practicality. Video quality is exceptional in daylight, but in low-light scenarios, some noise sneaks in.

The 32-megapixel front-facing camera is no bad either, delivering sharp and natural selfies. However, the rear cameras are where the X200 Pro truly shines.

Vivo X200 Pro: Battery

The Vivo X200 Pro packs a massive 6000mAh battery, ensuring all-day usage without breaking a sweat. During testing, the phone comfortably lasted through a day of heavy use, including gaming, photography, and video streaming.

Charging is equally impressive. The included 90W fast charger takes the phone from 0% to 100% in just 35 minutes. For those who prefer wireless charging, the X200 Pro supports up to 30W, though the wireless charger is sold separately. The device also supports reverse wireless charging, which came in handy when my iPhone ran out of juice. In just 15 minutes, the X200 Pro transferred enough power to revive the iPhone to 10% – a lifesaver in critical moments.

To test battery endurance, we played a 4K video for 30 minutes, and the battery dropped by only 8%. This efficiency makes the X200 Pro an excellent choice for content consumption.

Verdict

The Vivo X200 Pro is a well-rounded flagship that excels in almost every department. Its robust design, stunning display, powerful performance, and unparalleled camera capabilities make it a standout choice for photography enthusiasts and power users.

While the quad-curved display might not appeal to everyone, and the 100x digital zoom has its limitations, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise stellar package. The inclusion of a 6000mAh battery with fast and wireless charging further cements its status as a reliable daily driver.

If you’re in the market for a smartphone that delivers exceptional photography, flagship-level performance, and all-day battery life, the Vivo X200 Pro is an excellent investment. Vivo has once again proven why its X series remains a benchmark for camera phones.
