PROS 👍

CONS 👎

The Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 has arrived as the long-awaited successor to the original 2019 model, favoured by fitness enthusiasts for its secure fit and strong sound. Updated in 2025, they now feature active noise cancellation, heart rate monitoring, and a refined design, priced at 29,900. These earbuds aim to compete with Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 and other premium wireless options. After testing them, here’s a look at their performance and if they’re worth adding to your gym bag.

Detailed review of Beats Powerbeats Pro 2

Design & Build

The Powerbeats Pro 2 feature an improved ear-hook design that enhances comfort and stability during workouts. Weighing 8.7g each, they’re lighter than the original’s 11g, with five sizes of silicone ear tips for a snug fit. Their IPX4 sweat and water resistance makes them suitable for intense activities, but they’re not meant for swimming. The charging case is bulkier than most and weighing 69g, but it now supports both Qi wireless charging and USB-C. Each earbud has responsive physical buttons for volume and playback, though adjusting fit can lead to accidental presses.

Sound Quality

The Powerbeats Pro 2 have evolved from their bass-heavy roots to offer a more balanced sound profile, utilizing a new 9.5mm dual-layer transducer. The bass is deep and punchy, perfect for motivating workout playlists, while mids allow vocals to shine, and treble remains crisp without harshness. Although they lack the wide soundstage of the AirPods Pro 2, they deliver a dynamic experience for fitness enthusiasts.

Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) effectively reduces gym noise, while Transparency mode allows ambient sound for outdoor runs. Although there’s no customizable EQ, Apple users benefit from Spatial Audio with head tracking for an immersive listening experience.

Connectivity

The Powerbeats Pro 2, powered by Apple’s H2 chip, pairs seamlessly with iOS devices—just open the case near an iPhone, and you’re connected. Android users can pair easily via the Beats app but miss features like head-tracked Spatial Audio. With Bluetooth 5.3, the connection remains stable, even in busy urban areas. However, there’s no multipoint connectivity for pairing two devices at once, which is surprising given the price.

A highlight is the heart rate monitor, which uses optical sensors in both earbuds to provide accurate data comparable to an Apple Watch. It can pair with gym equipment, making it a beneficial feature for those who have compatible devices.

Battery

Beats claim 10 hours per charge with ANC off (8 hours with it on), and the case provides an additional 35 hours, totalling 45 hours. In real-world use, I got closer to 9.5 hours without ANC and just over 8 with it enabled, even with heart rate monitoring active. A 5-minute charge delivered 1 hour of playback, making these earbuds marathon-ready. The case’s wireless charging is a nice touch, though its size means it’s more likely to live in a gym bag than a pocket.

Verdict

The Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 are ideal for fitness enthusiasts, offering a secure fit, robust sound, solid ANC, and great battery life. They feature heart rate monitoring, making them suitable for those who skip smartwatches during workouts, and the H2 chip enhances the experience for Apple users. However, they lack multipoint pairing and come with a bulky case. If you seek bass-forward audio for workouts, the Powerbeats Pro 2 are a strong choice, though they may not suit everyone.
