The ministry asked its officials to avoid the use of AI enabled applications on office computers and devices for possible risks to government data security.
These AI tools could pose a threat to sensitive government documents and information.
“It has been determined that AI tools and AI apps (such as ChatGPT, DeepSeek etc) in the office computers and devices pose risks for confidentiality of Govt data and documents,” the advisory stated.
“It is, therefore, advised that use of AI tools/AI apps in office devices may be strictly avoided. This may be brought to the notice of all employees,” it further emphasized.

India’s AI Roadmap and Future Developments
Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics, and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw recently spotlighted India’s determination to develop its first foundational AI model in the near future.
Some suggestions for enhancing the learning of AI in India were discussed in a key meeting between Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday and OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman.
“Had super cool discussion with Sam Altman on our strategy of creating the entire AI stack – GPUs, model, and apps. Willing to collaborate with India on all three” says Vaishnaw on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Though AI technology will mark the future course of digital transformation, the government needs to be alert and safeguard sensitive data. It reflects the advisory by the Ministry of Finance in allusion to an increasing global concern over the security of AI along with a fair balance of development of AI in India.
