Elon Musk’s Tesla has finalized plans to open its first showroom in India at Mumbai’s upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The showroom will span 4,000 square feet on the ground floor of a commercial building, with Tesla paying a rental fee of ₹900 per square foot, totaling approximately ₹35 lakh per month.
In addition to the Mumbai Tesla showroom, the company plans to open a second Tesla showroom in Delhi’s Aerocity and is also considering importing Tesla vehicles from Berlin to India. The company has secured a five-year lease for the BKC location.
This major development follows Elon Musk’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the United States. After the meeting, Tesla posted job listings for 13 positions in India. PM Modi shared,
“We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I talked about India’s efforts towards reform and furthering Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”

Regarding Tesla’s pricing in India, sources indicate that Tesla is considering importing vehicles from Berlin, aiming to introduce an electric vehicle priced under $25,000. In comparison, Tesla’s vehicles in the U.S. start at around $35,000 (approximately ₹30.4 lakh) at the factory level, with the Tesla Model 3 being the company’s most affordable EV.
Elon Musk’s car company has been interested in the Indian market for quite a while, but it’s entry had been delayed because of disputes regarding import and manufacturing regulations.
