The Poco X-series has always been synonymous with delivering high performance to cater to extreme users. The latest addition, the Poco X7 Pro, is no different. Marketed as a phone for those who prioritize performance, it promises to offer a robust experience without breaking the bank. We received the Poco X7 Pro in Obsidian Black, although there is also a striking Yellow colour and Nebula Green variant available. After spending some time with this device, here is a complete review based on my experience.
Detailed Review of Poco X7 Pro
Poco X7 Pro: DESIGN
The Poco X7 Pro adopts a modern design with flat sides, a standard design in many phones today. This design choice not only looks sleek but also provides a comfortable grip, making the device easy to handle during extended use. The rear panel is crafted from dual-tone plastic, giving it a distinct aesthetic. The material feels durable and doesn’t attract fingerprints easily, and it also comes with silicon cases in the box. The dual-camera setup, paired with a dual-LED flash, is neatly integrated into the rear, giving the phone a balanced look. However, the choice of dual cameras instead of the usual triple-camera setup seen in this price range might raise some eyebrows.
One standout feature is the integrated infrared sensor on the top of the device. This allows users to control home appliances, a unique and practical feature. On the front, the Poco X7 Pro is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, which offers impressive durability. While we didn’t intentionally drop the phone to test its toughness, the glass feels robust enough to survive accidental drops. The display is a 6.67-inch pOLED panel with an incredible peak brightness of 3200 nits. This makes it easy to use even under harsh sunlight, ensuring excellent visibility. The vibrant, sharp display offers deep blacks, enhancing the overall content consumption experience. Additionally, the phone boasts an IP68 rating, meaning it can survive underwater for up to 2 meters, showing its durability.
Poco X7 Pro: PERFORMANCE
Under the hood, the Poco X7 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra processor. Our review unit came with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, but an 8GB RAM variant is also available at a slightly lower price point.
In day-to-day use, the Poco X7 Pro delivers a buttery-smooth performance. Switching between multiple apps, browsing social media, and streaming videos was seamless, with no noticeable lag. Even with several Chrome tabs open simultaneously, the phone didn’t stutter.
For those interested in benchmarks, the Poco X7 Pro doesn’t disappoint:
AnTuTu: 1,365,488
GeekBench Single-Core: 1,236
GeekBench Multi-Core: 5,778
GeekBench GPU: 10,992
3DMark Wild Life Extreme: 3,880
These scores place it comfortably among the top-performing devices in its segment. Gaming on this device is particularly enjoyable. Titles like BGMI and Asphalt Legends Unite ran effortlessly at high settings. While the device did get warm after 30 minutes of gaming, the performance remained consistent, and there were no signs of throttling.
CAMERA
The Poco X7 Pro opts for a dual-camera setup, which includes a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. While this might seem modest compared to competitors offering triple-camera setups, the device manages to deliver decent results.
In daylight conditions, the primary camera captures detailed and vibrant photos. The software’s post-processing does a commendable job of optimizing images, making them social media-ready straight out of the gallery. However, in low-light scenarios, the camera struggles to maintain clarity, resulting in average-quality photos.
The ultra-wide sensor is ideal for group photos or capturing vast landscapes. It performs well in good lighting conditions but shares the same low-light struggles as the primary sensor.
The 20MP front camera delivers satisfactory results for selfies. It captures natural skin tones and decent details in daylight, making it suitable for both selfies and video calls. As for video recording, the Poco X7 Pro supports up to 4K at 60fps. Videos shot on this device are sharp and have good color reproduction, though stabilization could be slightly improved.
Poco X7 Pro: BATTERY
The Poco X7 Pro has a massive 6,550mAh Si/C Li-Ion battery, ensuring it can keep up with power users. The included 90W fast charger is a game-changer, charging the phone from 0% to 100% in just 42 minutes. This makes it incredibly convenient for users who are always on the go.
Additionally, the phone supports reverse-wired charging, allowing you to charge other devices in emergencies. During our 4K video playback test, the battery drained by just 7% after 30 minutes, showcasing its impressive efficiency.
VERDICT
The Poco X7 Pro is a well-rounded device designed for performance enthusiasts. With its sleek design, powerful processor, vibrant display, and exceptional battery life, it stands out as a strong contender in the mid-range segment. While the dual-camera setup and average low-light photography may disappoint some users, the overall package is hard to overlook. If you value performance, gaming, and battery life, the Poco X7 Pro is an excellent choice.
