Google Vids Doesn’t Do Text-To-Video Like OpenAI’s Sora, But It’s A Pretty Unique Tool In Itself

Google Vids, the Gemini-powered video creation platform unveiled by Alphabet back in April this year, has started rolling out to Workspace users. The primary purpose of this tool is to create workplace videos using Google Drive files and text prompts. With it, Google aims to make everyone a “great storyteller” using the power of AI.

Google Vids, which is now rolling out only for certain editions of Workspace accounts, isn’t a generative AI video tool by any means. It’s not competing against the likes of OpenAI’s Sora or Meta’s Movie Gen. Instead, it can be seen as a tool that lets you eschew PowerPoint presentations by opting to create informative video presentations without the hassles involved with editing and graphics.

For those in sales, Vids can serve as an ideal tool for creating pitching materials, and for those in marketing, it can act as a platform for generating videos featuring campaign briefs, project plans, and presentations. Those in customer service and human resources can also make full use of these tools to serve their everyday purposes.

At the heart of Google Vids is Gemini, Google’s latest AI model. This allows users to type a prompt, feed in some documents, pictures, and videos, and sit back and relax as Vids generates an entire storyboard, script, music, and voiceover. You aren’t just limited to templates and stock videos, though. Vids even possess the ability to let you record videos of yourself and make audio tracks of your voice to accompany your video.

And since it’s integrated with Workspace, collaboration is a breeze. It comes with easy-to-manage permissions that provide granular control over who gets to edit, comment, or view your videos.

Google Vids has been available in Workspace Labs for quite a while, but it has finally got its full release. As I said, those using certain Workspace editions can now get access to this Gemini-powered tool.
