Sennheiser Unveils Spectera at Broadcasting India 2024

Sennheiser introduced a range of innovative audio solutions, with the standout being the launch of Spectera, the world’s first bidirectional wideband wireless audio system.

The Spectera system utilizes advanced Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems (WMAS) technology to simplify wireless setups while boosting performance and enhancing workflow efficiency. Unlike traditional systems that operate on numerous 200 kHz narrowband RF carrier frequencies, Spectera employs a single wideband RF channel for audio transmission, facilitating bidirectional communication of both audio and control data.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with over 700 attendees engaging at Sennheiser’s booth to experience the Spectera ecosystem firsthand through demonstrations led by the engineering team. This cutting-edge system addresses frequent issues faced by users of wireless audio, such as frequency coordination and streamlined cabling, by consolidating multiple wireless microphone receivers and in-ear monitor (IEM) transmitters into a single base station. This compact unit, fitting into a single rack space, supports 32 inputs and outputs, effectively replacing what would typically require an entire rack of equipment.

Spectera’s lower footprint extends to its bodypacks, which can simultaneously manage microphone/line and IEM/IFB requirements. The system also boasts comprehensive remote control and monitoring features, granting users the ability to adjust audio settings, control IEM and mic levels, and monitor RF health and battery status in real time.

In a notable shift in control and monitoring capabilities, Spectera allows for continuous two-way communication, enabling operators to adjust audio settings and monitor system health via a permanent control data stream.

Delivering Sennheiser’s signature digital audio quality, Spectera supports a variety of audio codecs processed at 32-bit float precision. It offers eleven Audio Link Modes, allowing operators to flexibly manage audio quality, latency, channel count, and range for each audio link, ensuring optimal use of available RF channels.

Ideal for large-scale productions in touring, broadcasting, theatre, and other fields requiring multichannel audio setups, Spectera meets customers’ demands for ease of use, reliability, and flexibility. Its minimal hardware design not only reduces the need for extensive frequency coordination but also promotes a flexible ecosystem that adapts to users’ evolving needs.

Vipin Pulgania, Sales Director – Pro Audio & Country Manager at Sennheiser India, expressed excitement over the product’s reception: “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to Spectera at Broadcasting India. This innovative solution offers exceptional ease of use, reliability, and flexibility, making it perfect for large-scale productions across various industries. With Spectera, we’re providing a powerful tool that simplifies wireless audio workflows and opens up new creative possibilities, like immersive 3D audio. We plan to continuously expand the Spectera ecosystem with new hardware, software features, and services.”

Sennheiser’s presentation at Broadcasting India 2024 also highlighted a number of other products, including the D6K, EW-DX, shotgun microphones, broadcast headsets, Profile USB microphone, and the newly launched Kompakt microphone. These innovations reinforce Sennheiser’s status as a frontrunner in the audio industry, committed to delivering unparalleled immersive audio experiences.
