5 Tech Features On The New Tata Nexon iCNG That Just Make Sense

The newly launched Tata Nexon iCNG is a car of many surprises. Apart from offering India’s first turbocharged CNG powertrain, it delivers uncompromised boot space thanks to the company’s famed twin-cylinder approach for its CNG kit. It can switch drive modes automatically and even start directly in CNG mode. This car comes with a 3-cylinder 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that can offer 73.52Kw of power at 5,000 RPM and 170Nm of torque at 2,000 to 3,000 RPM. But we’re more interested in the tech features that this new Nexon brings to the table. We took it for a wee drive and quickly noticed that these additions really did enhance the driving experience a great deal. Let’s take a look at them.

360-degree Surround View System

We’ve seen it in other Tata cars before, so it was pleasing to find out that the new Nexon iCNG has also embraced it despite its rather affordable price. The 360-degree view is particularly useful during tricky parking scenarios when you need to manoeuvre the car out of tight spaces. It provides an all-round view of everything around the car, so you can get out of sticky situations in a beat. Plus, there’s also the option of keeping the 360-degree view on all the time and having the view of one of the four sides on the left-hand side of the screen. And that’s all thanks to the large 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Harman.

Wireless charging and wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay

There’s something immensely convenient about using Android Auto and Apple Carplay without having to connect a cable to your phone. You can just place them near the armrest and control your music, navigation, calling, etc., using the large infotainment screen. And what is the best part of placing your phone on the armrest? It keeps wirelessly charging as well, giving you complete freedom from the hassle of carrying cables with you wherever you go.

Ventilated leatherette seats

As a person who sweats a lot while driving, even the AC can’t do much to keep my back from getting drenched with sweat during long journeys under the scorching heat. That’s why I find the premium ventilated seats of the Tata Nexon iCNG to be big savours. On the right-hand side of the driver’s seat is a button that lets you cool the seats up to three levels, ensuring that the car provides all-round comfort while driving.

Blind View Monitoring

One of the most convenient driver assistance features on the Tata Nexon iCNG is the Blind View Monitoring system. As soon as you engage your turn indicator, it provides a real-time video feed of the exact area that’s not visible in your rear-view mirrors. This feedback is provided on the sharp 10.2-inch touchscreen of the car, giving a big boost to the driver’s visibility and avoiding any potential risks while taking turns or switching lanes.

Voice-assisted panoramic sunroof

Getting a panoramic sunroof itself is a big deal, but the Nexon iCNG has gone beyond that by adding voice command capabilities. The sprawling sunroof can be opened entirely or halfway through. Or, you can even have the car peel its cover back to get a panoramic view of the sky above you without letting the breeze in. I have to admit, using the physical switch to switch between these was a bit tricky, but the availability of voice support made things a lot easier.

Now, of course, the availability of all these features depends on the variant you choose. The Tata Nexon iCNG is available now at an ex-showroom price of Rs 8.99 lakhs in India.
