ASUS is a highly reputable brand recognized for producing high-quality laptops. The ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED has sparked substantial excitement with its integration of a Qualcomm ARM processor. The shift from x86 architecture to ARM architecture raises the question of whether it will transform how we use laptops. Let’s find out.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED with Qualcomm ARM Processor

Design and Build

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED is a sleek 15.6-inch laptop with a durable aluminium body that not only ensures a robust build quality but also enhances its overall aesthetics. It even has a slim form factor and lightweight construction; the laptop is for those individuals with an active lifestyle. Its sturdy construction is completed by a reliable hinge system that makes the laptop lid easily open and close. The laptop has a full-fledged keyboard with numeric keypads and comfortable key spacing, making it easy to type without error. The trackpad on this model is slightly larger than the usual ASUS laptop trackpads, but it is slightly offset to the left, which may require some time to get used to. Additionally, the Vivobook S 15 OLED comprises an array of connectivity options, including traditional USB ports, USB Type-C, HDMI, and a microSD card reader, providing convenient connectivity for users who frequently require these options.

Display

One of the standout features of the ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED is its stunning 15.6-inch OLED display with 2880 x 1620 pixels. The OLED panel always delivers vibrant colors, deep blacks, and exceptional contrast ratios which is same on the ASUS Vivobook S 15 laptop. Watching movies, editing photos, or working on creative projects make it more appealing to watch on it. The display also supports a wide colour gamut and high dynamic range (HDR), making it ideal for content creators who require accurate colour reproduction. The thin bezels around the screen gives more immersive viewing experience and also decrease the overall size of the laptop.

Performance

The ASUS Vivobook S 15 OLED’s standout feature is its Qualcomm X Elite X1E78100 ARM processor, which boasts 12 cores and can handle up to 12 threads. It operates at a maximum frequency of 3.4 GHz, with a 42 MB cache. The processor’s integrated Adreno graphics deliver 3.8 TFLOPS, and the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU neural processor achieves a performance of 45 TOPs. With a maximum TDP of 45 watts, this processor offers excellent power efficiency, ensuring superior battery life, both crucial features for a laptop.

When charging the laptop with its official 90-watt type-C charger, we observed that it only took 2 hours to reach a full 100% charge. Upon using the laptop for tasks such as browsing, document editing, watching videos, and basic photo editing, the battery impressively lasted for more than 15 hours before dropping below 10%. This remarkable battery performance can be seen only on devices with ARM chipsets, making it a perfect companion for individuals who are always on the go.

While the ARM chipset may not be as powerful as traditional x86 processors for more demanding tasks like video editing or gaming, the Vivobook S 15 OLED delivers smooth and responsive performance for general productivity and multimedia use.

In order to assess the raw performance, we conducted a Geekbench test and obtained a score of 2405 for Single-core and 14074 for the multi-core benchmark. The result shows the Qualcomm X Elite is almost 20% higher than the Macbook Air M3 single core performance.

Verdict

The ASUS VivoBook S15 OLED, equipped with a new ARM Qualcomm processor, represents a significant upgrade. It even offers an excellent display quality, sleek design, and efficient performance. The standout feature is its OLED display, which provides stunning visuals. The Qualcomm X Elite processor delivers exceptional battery life and powerful performance for everyday tasks, making this laptop a solid choice for users prioritizing long battery life and display quality over raw computing power.
