During the Meta Connect 2024 event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the groundbreaking Orion AR glasses, showcasing them as a transformative tool that merges the physical and digital realms. These cutting-edge glasses, Meta’s inaugural working prototype of augmented reality eyewear, can project holographic images into the real world. Crafted from a durable magnesium alloy and powered by custom silicon, the Orion AR glasses boast advanced features such as hand-tracking, voice commands, and a wrist-based neural interface, setting a new standard for user interaction with their environment. Zuckerberg announced Meta’s goal to launch a consumer-ready version of the Orion AR glasses by 2027.
In addition to the Orion AR glasses, Meta introduced the Quest 3S mixed reality headset, scheduled for release on October 15, 2024. With a starting price of $299.99 for smaller storage options and $399.99 for larger ones, including a 512GB model priced at $499.99, this affordable headset is intended to broaden Meta’s consumer base. As part of this announcement, Meta also disclosed the discontinuation of the older Quest 2 and Quest Pro models.
Meta also made significant advancements in AI by publicly releasing the Llama 3.2 model as open-source software. This model, designed to generate content from text and input images, represents a major leap forward in generative AI and promises to deliver an enhanced user experience on Meta’s platforms. Additionally, Meta’s AI chatbots now offer voice interaction with celebrity voices, including those of Judi Dench and John Cena.

Zuckerberg also highlighted enhancements to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which now include real-time language translation, video recording, and AI-supported video editing capabilities.
