Canon Develops EOS R1

Canon has announced that they are developing the EOS R1, a full-frame mirrorless camera, as the first flagship model for the EOS R SYSTEM equipped with RF mounts. It is expected to be released in 2024.

The EOS R1 is designed for professionals and combines Canon’s technology with performance, durability, and reliability. This camera aims to significantly improve still images and video performance to meet the demands of professionals in sports, news reporting, and video production.

The EOS R1 will be equipped with a state-of-the-art image processor, the DIGIC Accelerator, in addition to the existing DIGIC X. This powerful duo, coupled with a new CMOS sensor, will facilitate lightning-fast processing of large data volumes, ushering in a new era of Auto Focus (AF) and other functions.

Canon has harnessed the power of deep learning technology to achieve unparalleled subject recognition speed and accuracy. A prime example is the AF’ Action Priority’ function, which can swiftly analyze subject movement in sports events, automatically identifying the main subject and capturing those game-changing moments.

The new image processing system and deep learning technology will also improve image quality by implementing image noise reduction as a camera function.

Canon plans to conduct field tests for this camera and support capturing definitive moments at international sporting events in the future. They also aim to expand the EOS R SYSTEM lineup of cameras and RF lenses to meet the demands of a wide range of users and contribute to developing photography and video culture.
